Dover enacts emergency parking ban for Friday

DOVER — Beginning early Friday morning, the city will enact an emergency parking ban to help clear snow from the downtown.

The five-hour measure, which is on top of the annual winter parking ban, is set to begin at 1 a.m. As a result, vehicles parked in the downtown will be towed at the owner's expense, according to a release by the city.

Normally, between Dec. 1 and April 1, area drivers are subject to a $15 fine for parking – from 1 to 6 a.m. – along all streets and sidewalks. As a result, vehicles can be parked – without the need for a permit – in designated areas in the lots behind the City Library, along Third Street and at School Street.

During the Emergency Parking Ban, vehicles may be parked in any city controlled parking lot, with the exception of the School Street lot, where only the row closest to the residences on School Street is available for public parking overnight, according to the release.

A map of the area included in the Emergency Parking Ban can be found on the city's website at www.dover.nh.gov.
