Central-Trinity game will resume Jan. 19

The Division I boys' basketball game between Manchester Central and Trinity will resume Sunday, Jan. 19 at Trinity's McHugh Gymnasium.

On Wednesday, the game was postponed with the teams tied 13-13 with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter due to a moist floor.

Slippery spots were spotted along the baseline entering the gym and along the sideline opposite the players' bench.

When the game was stopped, there was a five-minute delay. After both teams left the floor, the gymnasium doors were opened for 15 minutes.

After a meeting involving the game officials, head coaches Doc Wheeler of Central and Dave Keefe of Trinity along with Pioneers' athletic director Chip Polak, the game was officially postponed by the referees.

"Ultimately, it was the referee's decision, but they wanted the coaches to agree," said Polak. "It was the right decision."No injuries occurred on the slippery floor. Pat Keefe of Trinity had nine of his team's points and Jon Martin was the leading scorer for Central with seven. Both teams may play each other next week in the semifinal round of the Queen City Invitational Basketball Tournament. Central meets West and Trinity plays Memorial in the first round beginning Thursday, Dec. 26On Friday in regular season play, Central will host Alvirne and Trinity heads north to face Concord in the Capital City.
