Monarchs win, 2-1



The Manchester Monarchs completed a perfect weekend, beating the host Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 2-1, on Saturday night before 2,987 fans at Webster Bank Arena.
Brandon Kozun scored in the second period and Jordan Weal added a third-period strike that turned out to be the difference in the game. Goalie J.F. Berube stopped 30 shots en route to his second win of the weekend and 12th of the season. He made 27 saves in the Monarchs' 6-2 victory over Portland on Friday night.
Kozun's goal was his seventh of the year, Weal his eighth.
Scooter Vaughan's goal with 11:34 remaining in the game brought the Sound Tigers to within one, but the hosts could get no closer. Goalie Anders Nillson made 25 saves for Bridgeport.
Manchester (21-5-1-4), which lead the Atlantic Division, jumps back into action the day after Christmas (Thursday), hosting Portland at 7 p.m.
