Suspect in Mass. hold-up now charged with 2 Queen City robberies

MANCHESTER — A city man wanted for a robbery in Lawrence, Mass., now faces charges for two Manchester hold-ups.

After police arrested Luis Carpio, 24, Sunday afternoon near Bridge and Maple streets on the Lawrence warrant, detectives reviewed surveillance from recent city hold-ups and said Carpio matched the suspect in the images.

After further investigation, detectives developed information to charge Carpio with two Manchester robberies.

Carpio is accused of the hold-up of N&K Convenience store at 374 Pearl St. on Sept. 25, during which he allegedly claimed he would shoot if the clerk did not give him money, police said.

Carpio also allegedly robbed Crosstown Variety Store at 77 Bremer St. on Sept. 28. The robber in that case threatened he would shoot if the clerk didn’t give him money. No weapon was shown in either case.

At his arraignment Monday in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District Division, Carpio, of 238 Pearl St., insisted he is innocent.  "I was home with my kids," he told Judge Gregory Michael.

Carpio also disputed the alleged identification.  "They don't know it was me," said Carpio.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash/surety, and a probable cause hearing was set for Jan. 7, 2014.
