Chesterfield resident shot, killed in Conn.

CHESTERFIELD — A Connecticut man, who owns a piece of property in Chesterfield viewed by hundreds during the holidays, was found dead of a gunshot wound in Windsor, Conn.

According to a news release from Windsor, Conn., police, they are investigating the death of John Chakalos, 87, as a homicide. Police said Chakalos was found in his home at 52 Overlook Drive in Windsor, Conn. Friday. He died of a bullet wound to the head.

Chakalos, who is registered as the owner of property at 140 Pond Brook Road in Chesterfield, was discovered by a relative just before 8:30 a.m. The Connecticut State Medical Examiner’s Office determined Chakalos died of a gunshot wound at his home, according to the news release.

Chakalos’ New Hampshire home on Pond Brook Road is known for its holiday light show, according to Chesterfield police. Monetary and food donations were often collected from cars that visited the neighborhood, which would benefit a local food pantry.

Chakalos’ wife, Rita Chakalos, died at 84, just before Thanksgiving.
