30 homes evacuated during North Hampton gas leak scare

NORTH HAMPTON — Fire officials say about 30 homes were evacuated Sunday during a natural gas scare at a trucking company.

North Hampton Fire Chief Dennis Cote said compressed natural gas was coming through the vents in a tanker trailer parked at Abenaqui Carriers on South Road around 2 p.m.

Cote said gas created a vapor cloud above the trailer, which fire crews sprayed with water for about an hour to help dissipate the cloud until the gas stopped coming through the vents.

Homes within a half a mile of the business were evacuated as a precaution, and there were no injuries, Cote said.
Cote said there was no visible leak in the tanker, and investigators were still looking into the cause.
