Keene walk-in clinic to begin treating adult patients

KEENE — A medical walk-in clinic that has long served children in the region is opening up to adults early next year through a pilot program.

The Family Medicine Department at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene announced the new walk-in clinic pilot program on Tuesday.

Beginning Jan. 6, patients will be allowed to register for a “Family Medicine Walk-In Visit” in the medical center’s lobby between 8:30 and 11 a.m. Monday through Friday without a scheduled appointment.

Patients will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The care is for patients with new and non-severe symptoms such as a common cold or cough, vomiting or diarrhea, rash, ear pain, minor injury or sore throat.

This service will continue through the winter and spring of 2014, but may change based on the determined need. Wait times in the clinic will vary based on the number of patients that morning.

Patients with ongoing symptoms or one who has special health care needs are encouraged to make an appointment as well as patients with new symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, fainting, breathing issues, anxiety or depression, or an open wound.

Patients with medical emergencies are encouraged to visit their nearest emergency care center.
