H.S. Hoop Holiday Tournament Roundup: Merrimack Valley, Pembroke advance

Merrimack Valley and Pembroke advanced to today’s girls’ championship game of the 43rd annual Concord Area Holiday Tournament today at 4 p.m. at New Hampshire Technical Institute

Merrimack Valley was led by Mayson Kimball’s 13 points and six rebounds as the Pride advanced with a hard fought 58-48 win over Bishop Brady. The Green Giants were paced by the electric display from outstanding senior guard Riselly Deoleo’s 16 points and six assists.

In the other semifinal, Pembroke outlasted Concord with an exciting 41-35 win, advancing to the final for the first time since 2008. Outstanding sophomore forward Karli Loiselle led the Spartans with 12 points and six rebounds, with Concord’s Janessa Luciano scoring 14 points in a losing cause.

Bow was led by Kirsten Bresson’s 10 points and four assists in defeating a pesky Kearsarge team, 41-31, in consolation play. Devi Kraushaur and Anna Cahill scored 10 and eight points respectively for the Cougars.

Hopkinton was led by Sabrey Montore’s 13 points and five assists in a 52-22 win over John Stark in another consolation game. Hopkinton jumped out to a 15-4 lead and never looked back cruising to the win.

In boys’ play, Bishiop Brady and Pembroke both advanced to today’s title game at 6:15 p.m.

Bishop Brady’s outstanding junior guard Jordain Bell led the way with 29 points and eight assists. Merrimack Valley was paced by Bruce Barton’s 18 points and seven rebounds.

Pembroke dominated Concord from the opening tap jumping out to a 15-2 lead and led by senior guard Patrick Welch. Other key contributors for were Kafani Williams with 14 points and nine rebounds along with Dominic Timbas’ 17 points.

Kearsarge squeaked out an exciting 42-41 win over Bow in a consolation game. James Bromwell scored 10 points and added five rebounds in the back-and-forth win for the Cougars. Matt Sanford scored 11 points in the loss for Bow.

The Hopkinton boys came out on fire, making their first seven shots to lead 15-0 defeating John Stark, 76-41, in consolation play. Gabe Nichols scored 22 points and added eight rebounds for the Hawks. Zack Gagnon scored nine points for John Stark.

Red Claws Christmas Tournament: The Bedford girls’ team beat McAuley High School of Portland, Maine, 52-25, on Friday. Bedford broke McAuley’s 56-game winning streak. Bri Purcell had 10 points and seven steals and Nikki Tucci had 10 points and six rebounds for Bedford.Commonwealth Christmas Tournament: Pinkerton’s girls fell to North Andover, Mass., Friday, 43-37.

Valerie Martin had 13 points followed by Kayla Stacy with 10. Mackenzie Mello had 13 points for North Andover.
