Monarchs handed second straight loss

The Manchester Monarchs lost their second straight game Saturday, a 3-1 defeat to the St. John's IceCaps at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.

The game was scoreless until late in the second period, when St. John's scored twice while Manchester's Scott Sabourin was in the penalty box on a high sticking-double minor.

Will O'Neill had the first goal from Patrice Cormier and Kael Mouillerat at 17:23. Less than a minute later, at 18:20, it was 2-0 after Andrew Gordon scored from John Albert and Zach Redmond.

Carl Klingberg made it 3-0 at 2:48 of the third, assists to J.C. Lipon and Brenden Kitchton.

Manchester avoid the shutout when Nick Deslauriers scored at 19:07 of the third period, with assists to Andrew Bodnarchuk and Brandon Kozun.

J.F. Berube made 22 stops in the Manchester net. Eddie Pasquale made 35 saves for St. John's.

Manchester still tops the AHL with 47 points (21-7-1-4) and will try to get back on the winning track this afternoon when the Hartford Wolf Pack visit Verizon Wireless Arena for a 3 p.m. face-off.
