MANCHESTER — If you end up imbibing a little too much cheap champagne or other festive spirits tonight, a Manchester towing company is poised to get you home safely.Kris Hobbs said this is the second New Year's Eve that his company, Bentley's Towing, will offer free rides home to inebriated people. Not only will he bring them home, but he'll also deliver their car.
Hobbs said he won't charge people for the service — regular tows run $65 — but he will accept tips from grateful customers.
"I love New Year's, but I'm out of the partying stage. I like to see everyone get home safe," said Hobbs, who started Bentley's Towing three years ago and operates it out of his house.
Hobbs said he provided about 40 tows last year. Most were inside the city, and it was easy to complete about five tows in an hour. He said calls started coming in before midnight — many people wanted to get home to see the Times Square regalia on television. He wrapped it up about 4 a.m.
Hobbs said he's be running two trucks, and they're flatbeds, so two cars can fit on each truck.
None of last year's passengers were rowdy, but many were obnoxious, laughing and giggling.
"I had one customer throw up," Hobbs said. But she felt horrible, and her parents cleaned the truck out, he said.
