Monarchs skate past Penguins


A late goal from Nick Deslauriers lifted the the Manchester Monarchs to a 4-2 win over host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Saturday night.

The Monarchs improved to 23-8-6 and will close out the weekend at Hershey today at 5 p.m.

Deslauriers scored his 12th goal of the season at 14:05 of the third period, beating Penguins goalie Jeff Deslauriers (no relation) off a pass from Londonderry's Ian O'Connor to break a 2-2 tie.

Tanner Pearson added an empty net goal for Manchester in the final minute to account for the final score.

The Penguins had tied the game at 2-2 at 7:43 of the third period on a Nick Drazenovic goal.

The Monarchs struck early to take a 1-0 lead 2:34 into the game. Nick Shore netted the goal, his fifth of the season. Manchester pushed the lead to 2-0 just 52 seconds into the second period. Brian O'Neill had the tally, scoring his eighth of the year.

The Penguins cut the lead in half with a goal at 18:09 of the second. Off a faceoff win in the Manchester end, WBS winger Tom Kuhnhackl beat J. F. Berube high glove-side.
