Man Concord police describe as 'hobby hypnotist' charged in sexual assault

CONCORD - A Concord man described by police as a "hobby hypnotist" is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he tried, unsuccessfully, to have under his hypnotic spell.

Police identified the man as Thomas Goodness, 59, of Manor Road, who was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts of sexual assault, a Class A misdemeanor.

The victim told police investigators that she had solicited his hypnotism services in the past to help with a particular disorder. On Aug. 27, she said she sought him out during a relapse and Goodness then led her to a camper on his property, police said.

According to police, during the hypnotism, Goodness rubbed her body above the clothing, including her breasts and genitalia, but she was not under any hypnotic spell. Police said she was uncomfortable and afraid to resist or cry out because she feared how Goodness would react.

Goodness allegedly instructed her to touch herself in a sexual manner and grabbed her buttocks while kissing her on the lips, police said.

Concord police issued a warrant for his arrest Jan. 13 and Goodness turned himself in Tuesday.

He was released on $6,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 10.
