Goffstown boys blast Milford

GOFFSTOWN — Goffstown High took an early lead and kept it en route to a 50-23 boys’ basketball victory over Milford on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies improved to 2-4; Milford fell to 1-4.

Mike Bailey led Goffstown with 13 points, while Pat Kelsay added 12.

Drew Lesmerises led the Spartans with 7 points.

“Mike Bailey gave us a huge spark off the bench” said Goffstown coach Mark Elmendorf.

The Spartans were ice cold from the floor most of the game while Goffstown dominated the defensive boards, even with 6-7 center Seth Hopkins in the paint for Milford.

“We’re big, we’re strong and we rebound well,” said Elmendorf. “Both Kelsay and Tim Comeau are strong underneath.”

Milford coach Dan Murray agreed that the Grizzlies neutralized his big man.

“Goffstown did a good job boxing him, but we didn’t get their defense to move enough anyway,” said Murray.

The Grizzlies were up 13-6 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Bailey and Marcus Haynes got hot from 3-point range and the lead jumped to 18 (32-14) at the half.

The lead swelled to 24 halfway through the third quarter.

Milford was held to two points in that quarter.
