MANCHESTER — When the Trinity of Manchester and Manchester Central boys basketball teams meet Sunday afternoon, there's a good chance both will be unbeaten in Division I.

Trinity, last year's Division I champion, remained undefeated by fending off Nashua South 64-54 Tuesday night. The Pioneers don't play again before Sunday and will enter the Central game with a 5-0 record.

Central, which didn't play Tuesday night, will carry a 3-0 record into Friday night's game against Keene. The Blackbirds were 0-4 entering Tuesday's game against Bishop Guertin of Nashua.

Trinity received 17 points from both center Wenyin Gabriel and forward Carmen Giampetruzzi in its victory over South, which dropped to 3-1 following the loss. Yordy Tavarez led the Panthers with 17.

South led 22-17 after one quarter, but Trinity led 34-33 at halftime and 47-41 after three quarters.

It was all South early.

The Panthers scored the game's first seven points and led 22-17 after one quarter. Tavarez led all scorers with 10 points in the opening eight minutes, including three 3-pointers.

Trinity scored the first six points in the second quarter, however, and took its first lead, 23-22, when Gabriel made two free throws with 6:31 left in the half.

After a 9-0 run, the Pioneers opened up their largest lead of the half, 34-26, with 2:01 remaining in the quarter.

South scored the final seven points in the half, but Trinity carried a 34-33 lead into hafltime.
