DERRY — A local man was arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing a box used to collect worn American flags at the town transfer station, police said.
Eric Lecuyer, 42, 17L Gamache Road, was arrested at his residence on a warrant for theft, said police Capt. Vern Thomas.
Police recovered the box at his residence Dec. 9, Thomas said. Pinkerton Academy JROTC students installed the box Nov. 22 in a collaborative effort with the Derry Veterans of Foreign Wars. The box was stolen from the transfer station Nov. 29 and police later began an investigation.
Thomas didn't say why there was a delay from the time the box was stolen to when the arrest was made.
"We conduct thorough, well-documented investigations before making an arrest," Thomas said. "We did so in this case."
He said no further information on the arrest was being shared beyond a press release.
Lecuyer was released on $1,000 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned before the 10th Circuit Court, Derry District Division, on Jan. 30.
