House tables bill to end free seniors skiing at Cannon Mountain, but allow free entrance to parks
CONCORD -- The state House Wednesday tabled a bill that would give free admission to state-run parks and recreation areas to Granite Staters 65 years of age and older, but would have ended their free ski passes at Cannon Mountain during weekdays.
The vote to table was 190-150 and came after several North Country representatives complained about Senate Bill 190's provision to end the free lift passes at Cannon on Mondays through Fridays.
Seniors however, would get free admission to state recreation areas, and parks under the bill.
The bill would also take away the discount now enjoyed by state lawmakers, legislative staff, the Governor and Executive Council and the governor's staff at state recreation areas.
It would also require that any discounts received by state employees to state parks and campgrounds attained through collective bargainign be made up by the employing agency.
The bill is expected to be taken up at a later date.
