Monarchs iced in St. John's


 

St. John's IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale was red-hot, making 36 saves to lead the way in a 4-1 win over the visiting Manchester Monarchs Friday night.

Manchester fell to 25-12-6 while Atlantic Division rival St. John's moved up to 21-15-3. The teams play tonight at 6 and again Monday night.

Trailing 3-1 in the third period, Manchester pumped 18 shots on Pasquale but could not break through.

Jerome Samson scored an empty net goal with 14 seconds remaining to put the capper on the game for the IceCaps.

Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube made 27 saves and Nick Deslauriers scored his team-high 14th goal for the Monarchs.

Jason Jaffray gave St. John's a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period. Jaffray tallied his 10th of the season and third against Manchester just 52 seconds into the game.

The IceCaps built a 3-0 lead with special teams goals in the second period. John Albert scored a shorthanded goal at 7:56, backhanding a close-range shot past Berube for the 2-0 lead.

St. John's pushed to a 3-0 lead at 11:20 on a power-play goal from Samson. Deslauriers scored at 14:17 to get Manchester on the board and leave the score 3-1 heading into the third period.
