NHIAA Basketball: Clermont leads Pembroke girls

PEMBROKE — Pembroke Academy, led by the hot shooting of Aleanna Clermont, defeated Windham 41-33 Friday night.

Clermont led all scorers with 17. The Spartans are 6-2; Windham dropped to 4-3.

Spartans coach Joshua Goldstein said it was Clermont’s night to shine but added “I’m not worried about who’s scoring as long as we’re scoring.”

Pembroke broke out to a 15-6 lead after one quarter thanks to eight points from Clermont. But the Jaguars erased that deficit with a 9-0 run inside the first three minutes of the second. Windham’s Bri Angelini scored six of her 8 points on the night in that run.

But the Spartans responded with a 6-0 run to go up 21-15 at the half.

“When you don’t take care of the ball it’s difficult to capitalize on your opportunities” said Windham coach Joe Mason. “Their pressure disrupted what we were trying to do.”

In the third quarter, Windham tried to press, but Kaylie Montminy, Karli Loiselle and Madison Allen were able to get out of every jam. “I thought our press break execution was as good as it’s been all year,” said Goldstein.

The Spartans led 34-24 into the fourth quarter.
