Toffoli's hat trick and Berube's goaltending help Monarchs blank St. John's


 

After struggling to solve St. John's goaltender Eddie Pasquale on Friday night, the Manchester Monarchs found the solution Saturday.

Manchester defeated the host IceCaps 6-0.

St. John's won Friday's game 4-1. The teams close their three-game series Monday at 6 p.m.

Center Tyler Toffoli scored three goals for the Monarchs, who improved to 26-11-6. St. John's fell to 20-16-3.

Toffoli did all of his scoring in the final period. He collected a power-play goal at 3:48, scored his second goal at 12:53 and picked up goal No. 3 at 17:47. Toffoli has 10 goals this season.

J.F. Berube made 28 saves to collect his first shutout of the season.

Jordan Weal got the scoring started for Manchester with the only goal of the first period. Weal converted a pass from Brian O'Neill at 19:03 for his ninth of the season.

Andy Andreoff pushed the lead to 2-0 with a short-handed goal at 4:49 of the second period. Hunter Bishop set up the score and Andreoff finished with a wrist shot from the left circle to beat Pasquale.

Monarchs defenseman Vincent LoVerde, who had taken stitches ealier in the frame for a cut, made it 3-0 at 12:48 of the second with his second goal of the year.
