College Sports Roundup: Spirou wins 550th hoop game as SNHU coach

Stan Spirou collected career coaching victory No. 550 when the Southern New Hampshire men's basketball team knocked off The College of St. Rose 110-107 Saturday at Nolan Gymnasium in Albany, N.Y. Spirou has a record of 550-296 in his 29 seasons as SNHU's coach

Freshman Chris Walters led five SNHU players in double figures with a career-high 24 points. Junior Elijah Bonsignore scored 21 points, Hooksett's Mike Stys added 20, CJ Marriro tossed in 19 and Rodney Sanders finished with 16.




Hartford 60, UNH 43: At Durham, despite 13 points from freshman forward Jacoby Armstrong, UNH fell to 3-14 overall and 1-3 in America East. Freshman Daniel Dion added nine points and five rebounds for the Wildcats.




Franklin Pierce 69, New Haven 68: At West Haven, Conn., senior forward Ellis Cooper laid in the game-winning basket at the buzzer to hand No. 22 Franklin Pierce the victory. Cooper finished the game with 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. The game featured five lead changes in the final 1:13.




UMass-Dartmouth 103, Keene State 90: At North Dartmouth, Mass., sophomore Nate Howard tossed in a career-high 27 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds, but the Owls came up short on the road. Howard was one of four Owls to finish in double figures. Junior Tom Doyle and sophomore Tre'Tipton each had 13 points. Freshman Lucas Hammel tied his season high with 12 points.

Women's basketball

UNH 61, Hartford 56: At Hartford, the Wildcats erased an 18-point deficit in the first half and extended their winning streak to five games. UNH's Corinne Coia, a sophomore forward, led all scorers with 16 points. Senior guard Kelsey Hogan of Nashua started the 100th game of her collegiate career and contributed 11 points and seven assists.




SNHU 80, St. Rose 59: At Albany, freshman Sara Ryan made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 22 points to help the Penmen end an eight-game losing streak. SNHU sophomore Erin Doherty scored a career-high 20 points, and junior Brooke Springfield of Jaffery added a career-high 19 points.




Dartmouth 48, NJIT 45: At Newark, N.J., freshman Fanni Szabo hit a 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining in regulation and junior Abbey Schmitt made both free throws with seven ticks left to give Dartmouth its first road win of the season.




R.I College 71, Plymouth State 41: At Plymouth, the Panthers received 10 points apiece from senior Krystin Corliss (Loudon) and freshman DeAsia Lawrence, but fell to 2-11 overall. Lancaster's Bry Bennett, a sophomore, added eight points off the bench.




Keene State 70, UMass-Dartmouth 57: At North Dartmouth. Mass., Amherst's Christan Wojtas cored a team-high 15 points, but Keene State lost its fourth-consecutive Little East Conference game.




St. Anselm 61, Pace 52: At Manchester, senior Tori Lehr scored a game-high 16 points to help the Hawks collect their sixth win in their last nine games.

Freshman Candance Andrews added 14 points and five rebounds for St. Anselm.

Women's hockey

Connecticut 3, UNH 1: At Storrs, Conn., Ashley Wilkes matched her career high of 27 saves but the Wildcats fell to 8-12-2 overall and 3-5-2 in Hockey East. Alexis Crossley scored UNH's only goal.




Plymouth State 1, St. Michael's 1: At Plymouth, freshman Erin Dwyer scored a power-play goal with 2:04 left in regulation Saturday afternoon to help St. Michaels earn a tie. Freshman Justin Gelinas scored for Plymouth State. The Panthers received 28 saves from senior goalie Ali Ponte.




Dartmouth 4, Colgate 2: At Hamilton, N.Y., Dartmouth scored three second-period goals and stretched its unbeaten streak against Colgate to eight games. Dartmouth's Lindsey Allen scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with less than a minute remaining in the second period. Lauren Kelly, Ali Winkel and Laura Stacey also scored for Dartmouth.
