High School Roundup: Londonderry skaters stay hot
Mike Donlan and Lucas Poulin each scored twice to lead Londonderry High to a 7-2 victory over Concord in a Division I boys' hockey game on Monday at the ICEnter in Salem.
It was the fifth straight win for the Lancers (7-2).
Eric Coburn and Alex LaPlante each scored as well. Coburn had three assists and Matt Moriarty and Cooper Roy each had two assists.
Jason Parker and Brett Evangelista each had one assist.Concord's Adam Godbout and Matt Norris each scored once. Londonderry goalie Mitchell Schirch had 15 saves.
"We didn't start out well, but our defense didn't give them a whole lot," said Londonderry coach Peter Bedford. "We didn't give up the center of the ice and limited their chances. It's still early, but I'm glad we're on a winning streak. You want to be peaking in late February and we're looking to improve in each game moving on."
Londonderry battles Trinity on Sunday at 2 p,m. at the Sullivan Rink on the campus of St. Anselm.
Arlington, Mass. 2, Bishop Guertin 1: In Arlington, Mike Barrett provided the Cardinals (1-6-1 in Division I, 2-8-1 overall) with the early lead against the host team (8-1-1). Nick Apostolakes and John Krapian each had an assist.
"We had a strong effort and we just didn't finish," said BG coach Gary Bishop. "Scoring has been our biggest problem, but we think we can make a little run down the stretch. Our record doesn't show it, but we've been competitive and have played well of late."
BG goalie Griffin Scanlon turned back 30 shots. The Cardinals travel to Everett Arena to play Concord Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
St. Thomas 6, Bishop Brady 3: In Concord, Bishop Brady led 2-1 before the Saints erupted for five third-period goals.
"We just couldn't protect the lead," said Brady coach Randy Manni, who is coaching a young team with four seniors. "This was the first game all year that we led after two periods. We just didn't win the one-on-one battles you need to win in the third period." Byron Welch scored two goals for Brady, which travels to the ICenter to face host Salem on Saturday at 8:10 p.m.
Bishop Guertin 2, Lebanon 0: It was a shutout win for goalie Mia Vecchione. Bishop Guertin improved to 4-0. Lebanon fell to 5-2.
Hanover 7, Oyster River 0: In Durham, unbeaten Hanover (4-0) dominated host Oyster River (6-2), outshooting the Bobcats 35-14 and getting two goals apiece from Matti Hartmann, Eliza Laycock and Mahler Myerrose.
