Rochester man indicted for car theft, pursuit in Salem
BRENTWOOD — A Rochester man was indicted on 10 charges for allegedly plowing a stolen truck into a police cruiser and then driving the vehicle at a second police officer during a pursuit along Route 28 in Salem, prosecutors said.
A grand jury indicted Anthony Monbleau, 23, for leading Salem police on a pursuit through their town on Oct. 5 after an officer tried to pull him over for a traffic violation.
Prosecutors say Monbleau had stolen an Isuzu Rodeo from a parking lot in Salem a short time before officers attempted to pull him over.
He struck a cruiser driven by Officer Matthew Norcross, and then drove toward Officer Paul Benoit as he attempted to put stop sticks in the northbound lane of Route 28, according to indictments.
Monbleau faces up to 7½ to 15 years on the theft charge.
Police say Monbleau fought with police and was tasered before being taken into custody.
