Granite State digital artist Harry Umen opens his “Light Forms” exhibit at The Gateway Gallery at Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth on Monday. A reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, and the showing will hang through Monday, March 14. Umen, who teaches digital media at Southern New Hampshire University, fuses painting and printing on shaped transparent materials such as glass, plexiglass and mylar with computer generated graphics. The work explores the “interaction of virtual color and light created through small-scale constructed studio stage sets,” curators said. Umen has exhibited large-scale digital art installations at the Boston Museum of Science, Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord and Southern New Hampshire University and the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester.
