Towed: Beware the private lot

When the tow truck driver feels bad for you, you must be a pretty sad case.

The Burger King on Hooksett Road in Manchester had eight cars towed from its lot on a recent Friday. They belonged to some senior citizens who say they park there about once a month and hire a limousine-van to go to Boston. The tow truck driver said he felt bad towing the cars of a bunch of “little old ladies,” but he said the restaurant hired him because young people had been littering and driving recklessly in the parking lot.

People too often mistake private parking lots for public ones. They are not. But often if you ask nicely, you can get permission to park over a day or a weekend. You have to ask, though. Otherwise you risk being lumped in with the punks who trash the place.

Regarding the cruising, trash-tossing crowd, once again we see that a lack of basic civility ruins a good thing for everyone else. Well, everyone but the tow truck driver.
