College Basketball: UNH women fall to Albany

The University of New Hampshire's quest to conquer the top spot in the America East women's basketball league will have to wait another day. Shereesha Richards netted 25 points to lead the University of Albany to a convincing 88-47 victory at the SEFCU Arena Thursday afternoon.

Albany snapped New Hampshire's six-game winning streak. The Wildcats fell to10-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Albany, the defending conference champion, extended its winning streak to seven games to raise its record to 16-3 overall and 6-0 in America East.
In a game pitting the best offensive team, the Great Danes, against the best defensive team in the conference, offense won hands-down.
Albany roared out of the gates, taking an 18-4 lead that eventually grew to 46-20 by halftime. Albany extended its lead to 61-28 with 12:10 left and coasted the rest of the way.

Kelsey Hogan of Nashua, who recently became the 17th player in UNH history to score 1,000 career points, led the Wildcats with 11 points. Corinne Coia followed closely with 10 points. Elizabeth Belanger led UNH with seven rebounds.

The Great Danes shot 56 percent from the field (33 of 59). UNH could convert only 15 of 55 shots for 27-percent.

The Wildcats remain on the road, visiting the University of Massachusetts- Lowell in its Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
