College Sports Roundup: St. Anselm men come back to top Bentley

Junior Chris Santo scored a game-high 27 points to help the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team erase a 13-point second-half deficit and earn an 88-79 win against Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass.

Santo was 9 for 15 from the floor and 9 for 11 from the free throw line. He also pulled down eight rebounds.




Southern Conn. 106, Franklin Pierce 95: At Rindge, a 33-point effort from forward Ryen Vilmont wasn't enough for Franlin Pierce, which allowed 57 points in the second half. The Ravens received 13 points from Paul Becklens and 12 from Ellis Cooper.




Colby-Sawyer 98, NEC 81: At Henniker, forward Mike Dias scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting to lead Colby-Sawyer. Manchester's Wol Majong finished with 16 points.




Daniel Webster 76, Wheelock 51: At Chestnut Hill, Mass., senior forward Daris Cosby and sophomore guard Ryan Gauthier (Nashua) each scored 21 points to highlight Daniel Webster's victory.




UMass-Dartmouth 78, Plymouth State 75: At North Dartmouth, Mass., junior Shomari Morgan (Manchester) recorded a game-high 18 points and five rebounds to pace the Panthers in this loss. PSU's Alex Burt (Dover) finished with nine points.

Women's basketball

Bentley 98, St. Anselm 82: At Waltham, Mass., freshman Candace Andrews scored a team-high 20 points, but Saint Anselm couldn't prevent top-ranked Bentley from improving its record to 18-0. All 18 victories have come by double figures. Andrews shot 8 of 18 from the floor and made a career-best four 3-pointers on five attempts.




Mitchell 72, Daniel Webster 60: At Nashua, Ashley England tossed a a team-high 21 points for Daniel Webster in the loss. Manchester's Ashley Giampetruzzi added nine points, and Manchester's Katherine Johnson tossed in seven points and collected six rebounds.




SNHU 53, Le Moyne 52: At Manchester, sophomore Erin Doherty finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and SNHU held off a late Le Moyne College rally. Doherty recorded her fourth double-double of the season to pace four SNHU players in double figures. Lorreta Rocha finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, Sara Ryan had 11 and Jaffrey's Brooke Springfield finished with 10 points and five assists.




Keene State 60, UMass-Boston 56: At Keene, Senior Carly Kiernan scored a game high 18 points and freshman Jovan Kingwood came off the bench to net 13 points, including 11 in the second half, to lead Keene State.




Colby-Sawyer 71, NEC 68: At Henniker, Ashley Fruzzetti collected 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds to lead Colby-Sawyer. Sophomore guard Katie McCarthy finished with eight points and a game-high nine assists.




Rivier 71, Johnson and Wales 52: At Nashua, junior Deanna Purcell of Hudson tossed in a game-high 18 points as Rivier improved to 14-3 overall.




Smith 65, Wheaton 61: At Norton, Mass., Portsmouth's Rosa Drummond scored a game-high 26 points and collected 14 rebounds to highlight Smith's victory.
Women's hockey




Boston College 5, UNH 3: At Chestnut Hill, Mass. UNH's Cassandra Vilgrain scored twice, but BC extended its winning streak to four games and its unbeaten streak to nine.




Manhattanville 3, NEC 1: At Henniker, Kellie McLean's first-period goal was the highlight for NEC, which fell to 2-17-0 overall.


Dartmouth 4, Union 3: At Hanover, Lindsey Allen capped a four-point weekend with a pair of third-period goals as Dartmouth extended its winning streak to three games.

Indoor track and field

Mile marks: At Boston, senior Will Geoghegan broke the 20-year old Dartmouth indoor record for the mile at Boston University's Terrier Invitational. Geoghegan ran a 3:58.04 in the second-seeded heat of the day, breaking the old record of 4:02.26, set by Sam Wilbur in 1994, by more than four seconds. The time is also the fastest mile in the nation this season, matching the feat set by his female counterpart and classmate Abbey D'Agostino (4:28.03) Friday night, giving Dartmouth the best male and female milers in the country.The performance also set a new Ivy League mark, eclipsing the previous record of 3:58.52 set by Columbia's Kyle Merber in 2010.

The only other Dartmouth student-athlete to break the four-minute mile in program history was Ben True, who has a 3:59.99 to his credit during the outdoor season.
