Wolfeboro man pleads to disability payment fraud

CONCORD – A Wolfeboro man who failed to report his earnings from a landscaping job while collecting federal disability payments pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to making false statements.

Mark McLaughlin, 49, fraudulently collected nearly $120,000 in disability payments between June 2007 and July 2013.

The Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation makes payments to U.S. Postal Service employees who are totally or partially disabled due to work injuries, and benefit recipients are required to report paid employment because it affects the amount of disability benefit.

McLaughlin faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine at his sentencing scheduled for April 30.
