GILFORD — Voters, who will decide whether to renovate and add to the town’s police station, will also have a warrant article at the polls in March asking for approval of a new salary agreement with its unionized police officers.
The agreement calls for raises at the lowest end of the pay scale of 15 cents per hour at the low end, with a maximum increase of 2.5 percent on the high end of the salary table, according to town officials.
As part of the agreement, police officers would pay more for their health insurance. Article 11 on the town warrant asks the town to approve the cost items included in a two-year collective bargaining agreement reached between the Board of Selectmen and the Teamsters Local 633 of New Hampshire on behalf of police department employees.
The agreement calls for increases in the wage and benefit package of $3,297, to cover the estimated costs necessary to fund the new salary agreement in the current fiscal year over the costs attributable to wages and benefits that would have been due under the current agreement at current staffing levels.
The estimated cost to fund the wages and benefits in the second year of the agreement is an increase of $7,331 over the costs that would have been paid under the current agreement at the current staffing levels.
The town’s contribution to employee health insurance for unionized department employees would drop by $2,382.90.
The warrant article comes with the unanimous recommendations of the board of selectmen and the budget committee.
Voters will also be presented with Article 9, which asks for $1.2 million for an addition and renovations to the police station.
