Auburn voters to deliberate on 3 articles that would raise taxes

AUBURN — At the Auburn School District's deliberative session Monday, Feb. 3, residents will be presented with three warrant articles that would constitute a tax increase.

The session will begin  at 7 p.m. at Auburn Village School.

The most expensive warrant article is the $12,490,886 proposed school budget for next year, which, if approved, would have a tax impact of $2.24 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. The default budget is slightly less at $12,361,672.

Residents also will be presented with a warrant article asking to raise and appropriate $75,000 to go in the Special Education Expendable Trust Fund. If approved this March, it would have a tax impact of 12 cents.

Another warrant article asks residents if they want to raise and appropriate $93,100 to fund architectural and engineering costs associated with a renovation and addition to the Auburn Village School. If passed in March, this warrant article would have a tax impact of 15 cents.

"The warrant articles being presented are pretty straightforward; there is nothing extravagant there," said Karen Lessard, SAU 15 business administrator.

Residents also will be presented with a warrant article asking if they want to discontinue the High School Transition Trust Fund that was created in 2011. There is no money in the trust.
