College Sports Roundup: Dartmouth conquers Quakers

Sophomore Alex Mitola scored a season-high 25 points — 23 in the second half — to help Dartmouth overcome a seven-point halftime deficit and snap a five-game losing streak by defeating Penn, 67-58, on Friday night at Leede Arena.

The win was not only the first in Ivy League play this year for the Big Green (8-9, 1-2 Ivy), but also the 200th for Paul Cormier as a head coach between two stints at Dartmouth and another at Fairfield.

The visiting Quakers got 19 points from Fran Dougherty, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from dropping to 4-12 on the season and 1-1 in the Ivies.

The Big Green host Princeton Saturday night. The Tigers (12-4, 0-2 in the Ivy League) lost at Harvard on Friday night, 82-76.

St. Anselm 3, Manhattanville College 2 (OT): Freshman Alison Quinn scored with 1:22 remaining in overtime to lift the St. Anselm College women’s ice hockey team to a come-from-behind victory against Manhattanville College on Friday afternoon in Stamford, Conn.

The Hawks (16-3-0; 9-2-0 in ECAC East) trailed 2-0 in the second period before making their comeback. First, Courtney Winters collected her own rebound and scored with 7:41 remaining in the period. Then, with only 4:25 remaining in regulation, Halle Kent tied the game with a shot from the high slot that worked its way through traffic.

St. Anselm held a 43-12 advantage in shots, including 15-3 in the third period and overtime, combined. Hawks freshman goaltender Hannah Synnott made 10 saves to improve to 7-0-0 on the season.

Manhattanville dropped to 7-10-3 and 5-4-2.

Quinnipiac 3, Dartmouth 1: In Hamden, Conn. the Big Green’s three-game win streak was snapped. Emma Korbs scored the lone goal for Dartmouth (7-14-1, 6-9-1).
