Amherst voters finalize ballot for district's warrant articles

AMHERST - The deliberative session for the Amherst School District was held Saturday to finalize the warrant articles that will appear on the ballot next month.

An operating budget of $24,327,452 is being proposed by school officials, which represents a decrease of .13 percent from the current budget.

Despite a proposed budget reduction, other increases are being proposed in several warrant articles.

A proposed collective bargaining agreement with the Amherst Education Association calls for salary increases totaling $332,356 for the coming school year. An additional request to place $50,000 into a capital reserve fund for educating students with disabilities is also being recommended.

If all of the warrant articles are approved as recommended, the Amherst School District tax rate will increase from $12.16 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $12.48.

Election Day is March 11, and the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Souhegan High School.
