HUDSON — A residential fire shut down Ferry Street for over an hour Monday afternoon. (APRIL GUILMET)

Hudson home damaged by afternoon fire

HUDSON — A residential fire shut down Ferry Street for over an hour Monday afternoon.

Hudson Fire Captain David Morin said the fire appears to have originated in the rear section of the first level of a home at 106 Ferry St.
The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m., when one of the home's occupants reported heavy wafts of smoke filling the first floor.
The home is located about a half-mile from the Library Street fire station. Morin said the fire quickly spread to the building's partitions and onto the home's second level. Firefighters broke through a second-story window to release the smoke.
The fire was brought under control by 4 p.m., and Ferry Street was reopened a short time later.
No one was injured during the fire and the home's occupants had escaped uninjured. The building sustained heavy water and smoke damage.
According to local property records, Nilfa and John Collins own the property. The two-story New Englander home dates to the early 1900s.
The Hudson Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
