Police look into alleged conduct by Somersworth teacher

SOMERSWORTH — Police are looking into an alleged incident where a high school teacher inappropriately touched a female student late last month, said Capt. David Kretschmar.

While few details can be released, Kretschmar said the alleged incident occurred between the male teacher and female high school student — who is a juvenile — Jan. 27 after school. He added the identities of both people have not been released.

“For the integrity of the investigation, we’re not releasing any information,” Kretschmar said, adding more details will possibly become available next week.

Kretschmar said it takes time to conduct a thorough criminal investigation. He said the investigation could clear the teacher or result in charges, depending on the evidence.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Kretschmar said school officials have been “very cooperative.”

Superintendent Jeni Mosca could not comment about the matter, especially whether the teacher remains at the school or is facing administrative actions.

“This is an internal personnel matter,” Mosca said, adding the school district works hard to ensure the safety of students.
