Man stabbed on Nashua street under arrest

NASHUA -- A Nashua man who was allegedly in the process of robbing an individual following a drug transaction was stabbed in the chest with a knife on Tuesday, according to police.

Samuel Truscott, 24, of 56 Lake St., has been arrested and charged with a felony count of robbery for the incident. According to initial reports, it appears the robbery victim was acting in self defense when he pulled out a knife and stabbed Truscott in the chest, said Lt. Denis Linehan.

“It is a non-life threatening injury,” Linehan said of Truscott's stab wound, adding Truscott was still being treated at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Linehan, Truscott and two other men were on their way to an apartment Tuesday night at 23 Temple St. to purchase an undisclosed amount of prescription pills when one of the participants thought he might become a target.

Fearing that Truscott may try to steal his money, the man left the scene and tried to walk away from Truscott and his companion, said police. Eventually, Truscott met up with the man at the corner of Elm and Cedar Street when Truscott allegedly began assaulting him and trying to steal his cash, according to police.

The victim, fearful that he might be injured, took out a knife and “poked it into the direction of (Truscott’s) chest area,” said Linehan. The victim, who was not immediately identified by police, maintains that he was acting in self-defense when he pulled out his knife, according to Linehan.

The victim called police to report the incident on Tuesday night, around the same time authorities were receiving other calls about a man who had been stabbed in the street. A judge with the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division, was expected to arraign Truscott at the hospital on Wednesday.

The victim, along with the third person involved in the drug transaction, have not been arrested. Linehan said police are continue to investigate the incident, as well as the location of the drug deal.

“Our narcotics unit is very well aware of that multi-unit apartment building, as we have had several problems there,” said Linehan. “We will continue to follow up on reports of any drug sales at that location.”

This is not Truscott’s first encounter with city police. Two years ago, Truscott was arrested and charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer for an unrelated incident.
