Londonderry's Baldasaro won't seek Senate seat

LONDONDERRY - Rep. Alfred 'Al' Baldasaro, R-Londonderry, said Wednesday he will not run for the U.S. Senate.

'It was a tough decision, honestly,' the four-term state legislator said. 'With veteran issues and Second Amendment rights at the forefront, it really got me going. If I had the money to compete, I would be there in a heartbeat.'
He said he does not have enough time to raise $3 million to $4 million in campaign funds for the November election.

Baldasaro said it would also be difficult to walk away from his chairmanship of the New Hampshire House Republican Alliance and membership on the State-Federal Relations and Veteran Affairs Committee.

Baldasaro has been vocal about his opinion of U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

"Personally, she is a good person, but I just don't think her politics are good for New Hampshire," he said. "I could definitely see myself in the future running for higher office."

Baldasaro, a former first sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, said he will seek a fifth-term as a state representative for Londonderry.
