KEENE - A plan to draft an ordinance to develop a new historic district is coming before City Council tonight.
The City Council meeting is planned for Thursday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The city already has a historic district on a section of Main Street downtown.
The proposed district would extend from the roundabout at Main-Marlboro-Winchester streets down Main Street to Route 101.
On Jan. 22, the Planning, Licenses and Development Committee unanimously recommended the full Council move forward with proposed plan to draft an ordinance for the historic district covering lower Main Street.
Creating such a district would restrict homeowners on lower Main Street by requiring them to seek approval from the Historic District Commission to make significant changes to their properties. If adopted by the city, Keene State College would be included in the new historic district but not subject to it because it is a state entity.
