Outfielder Sam Fuld of Durham signed a minor-league deal with the Oakland Athletics Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training and he will earn $800,000 if he’s on the major league roster and up to an additional $100,000 in incentives based on games played.
The 32-year-old Fuld, who can play all three outfield positions, spent the last three seasons with Tampa Bay. He hit five homers and drove in 49 runs in 268 games with the Rays. Last season in 119 games, he batted .199 in 200 at-bats and was eventually non-tendered, which immediately made him a free agent.
