Exeter’s Murdock third in regional girls’ mile race in Boston

Exeter High School’s Shannon Murdock finished third in the girls’ junior mile at the 2014 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Murdock, a junior, completed the race in 4 minutes, 36.79 seconds.

Maddy Berkson of Classical High School in Providence, R.I., won the event in 4:56. Coe-Brown’s Hannah Parker, the only other New Hampshire runner in the race, placed 11th in 5:04.73.

Murdock set the state record in the 1,500 (4:36.79) meters at the state indoor meet held at Dartmouth College earlier this month. She is ranked No. 1 nationally among high school students in that event.
