Barnstead teen facing upgraded charge of attempted murder
Samantha Heath, 18, of 6 Amherst Drive, originally was arrested on first-degree assault in the stabbing of Andrea Halvorsen on Jan. 28.
Authorities said Halvorsen was stabbed 15 times in the back, chest and stomach, and then pushed out of Heath's car at Bear Brook State Park.
Halvorsen underwent surgery at Concord Hospital and authorities said they are optimistic she will recover from her injuries.
Heath's boyfriend, Kyle Buffum, 22, who listed his address as 6 Amherst Drive, Barnstead, also is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the case. He is accused of helping to plan the killing of Halvorsen.
Investigators have not given a motive for the crime.
Heath was detained on $50,000 cash bail on the first-degree assault charge, which has been bound over to Merrimack County Superior Court. Bail was set at $500,000 cash on the attempted first-degree murder charge.
Buffum's bail also is $500,000 cash.
Heath is to return to 6th Circuit Court, Concord District Division, on Feb. 19 for a probable cause hearing.
Barnstead police said Heath had a protective order against Buffum, and he was arrested on a stalking charge. Both the stabbing victim and Buffum were arrested at an underage drinking party in Concord last June.
Buffum, then a resident of 46 Concord St., where the party was held, was charged with prohibited sales. Halvorsen was given a summons for alcohol possession.
Heath was not among the 33 people summonsed or arrested at the underage drinking party.
