NASHUA — The Courtyard by Marriott in Nashua is about to undergo a major renovation project as the new owners have planned a complete makeover for the hotel and conference center.
"As an organization, we are excited to be part of the Marriott property, and saw an opportunity to update the hotel from top to bottom to provide guests with the amenities they've come to expect from a Marriott," David Roedel, partner at Roedel Companies, said.
Roedel Cos. announced Thursday that it has purchased the local hotel at 2200 Southwood Drive, which represents Roedel's first Marriott property.
The interior of the 200-room hotel and 11,000-square-feet conference center will experience a full makeover. In addition, the existing lobby will be demolished to create a new, open concept, multipurpose bistro area and bar.
"The multimillion dollar renovations will take place in phases to limit disruptions to guests, and are slated to be completed in the first quarter of 2015," according to a news release.
Other improvements to the hotel include a communal dining area, home theatre-like entertainment section, media pods, business library and fireplace for guests to socialize. About 200 hotel rooms and suites will be upgraded, the fitness center will be expanded, meeting rooms will be added and bathrooms will be modernized, according to the release.
The conference center will undergo its own renovation project, which will include a signature name and logo. The exterior of the conference center entrance, which is visible from the F.E. Everett Turnpike, will be fully refurbished, as well as the interior meeting spaces for conferences and social events.
"Upon completion, the conference center will be an ideal location for business events and celebrations," said Roedel.
ROK Builders will oversee the renovation, while RSJ Associates will handle the interior design work. The hotel will be run by RGH Hospitality, the hotel management subsidiary of Roedel Companies.
Roedel officials did not reveal the purchase price of the hotel, but did say the company secured a loan from Merrimack County Savings Bank for the acquisition and renovation project.
There has been a flurry of hotel activity in Nashua in recent months. Separate plans have been made for the construction of a new, four-story Residence Inn at 25 Trafalgar Square, which is expected to include 118 guest rooms.
A different hotel proposal from the John J. Flatley Co. includes a new, 105-room, four-story Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel at the Nashua Technology Park.
Roedel Companies, of Wilton, currently owns and operates the Hilton Garden Inn Manchester and a portfolio of nationally branded hotels throughout the Northeast, including Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Hilton Garden Inns and Hampton Inn and Suites.
The company builds and renovates hotels throughout the Eastern United States both for itself and for third parties through ROK Builders, its construction management subsidiary.
In 2012, Roedel Companies completed a major renovation to the Fairfield Inn in Merrimack off Exit 11 of the turnpike.
