Snow emergency declared in Manchester; no parking on city streets

MANCHESTER - Residents, move those cars.

A snow emergency is in effect beginning tonight from 10 p.m. through Friday at 6 a.m. in the city, eliminating all parking on city streets.

Any vehicle parked in violation of the snow emergency will be towed and impounded. Towed vehicles will be stored at the lot at Derryfield Park, off Bridge Street. In order to get back an impounded vehicle, the owner must present proof of ownership and pay $110 in cash, by certified check or money order payable to the city of Manchester.

Payment must be done within 24 hours of the time the vehicle is towed. Vehicles not recovered within 24 hours will be subject to additional towing and storage charges.

The city has two locations available for parking during snow emergencies. The first is at the Victory Parking Garage at Chestnut and Amherst streets. Parking, from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, is free during the snow emergency for residents who do not have off-street parking. Parking spaces are limited, however.

The second location is in the Pearl Street parking lot, available from 5:30 p.m.Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday.

A snow emergency is called to allow city crews to plow the full width of the streets, providing access for emergency vehicles as well as parking once the snow emergency is over.
