Hockey, ski jumping have a NH flavor Saturday

It’ll be a New Hampshire kind of day at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, today.

The big event is the men’s hockey game between the United States and Russia at 7:30 a.m. Three players are former Manchester Monarchs: Dustin Brown and Jonathan Quick for the United States and Slava Voynov for Russia. USA forward James van Riemsdyk is a former University of New Hampshire player.

Conway’s Leanne Smith competed early Saturday morning in the women’s super-G at Rosa Khutor, Russia. Smith competed earlier this week in the women’s super combined and finished 20th.

Two New Hampshire athletes, Lebanon’s Nick Alexander and Andover’s Nick Fairall, competed in the men’s individual ski jumping large hill event early Saturday morning at Rosa Khutor.
