Manchester monthly parking fees could rise $10 a month; meters, resident permits could increase, too

MANCHESTER — Many monthly parking permits would increase $10 a month under the first of several aldermanic votes needed to approve the changes.

Motorists also would pay a quarter more an hour, from 50 cents to 75 cents, to park along some downtown streets under a fee structure aldermen approved Tuesday. Some meters would run until 8 p.m., or 2-1/2 hours longer than now.

Under the proposal OK’d Tuesday, residential permits, which are free now, would cost $100 a year, or $50 for less than six months. The city’s parking manager, Denise Boutilier, had proposed aldermen impose a $30 monthly fee.

Pay and display permits would go up $5 a month to $20. Permits to park at secondary schools would rise $10 a month to $40 — less than the $50 sought by the parking manager.

Millyard lots would increase $10 a month to $55, rather than the proposed $70 rate.

Other parking lots would increase $10 to $60 a month, less than the proposed $70 rate. The Victory Parking Garage would also increase $10 a month, to $85, but less than the proposed $90 monthly cost.

Downtown on-street permits also would rise $10 a month, to $55, instead of the proposed $70.

Tuesday’s approved rate hikes must go before two aldermanic committees as well as before the full aldermanic board twice more, meaning a final decision won’t be known for at least a couple of months, according to the City Clerk’s Office. The proposals need more approvals because it would be a change in a city ordinance.
