Litchfield resident Teresa Paquin said her daughter’s battle with eczema inspired her to create natural skincare products. Paquin’s Pure Essentials skincare products are vegan, gluten-free and don’t contain any synthetic fragrances or dyes. (APRIL GUILMET PHOTO)
Litchfield mom had a healing motivation to create skincare products
The serious skin condition quickly spread through the little girl’s tiny body, as Paquin brought her to pediatrician after pediatrician. Still, there was little relief in sight.
After treating the infant with herbal supplements and other natural remedies, such as soaking in red clover baths, little Alyssa’s condition quickly improved and Paquin knew she’d found her life’s calling.
Alyssa is now in college, and Paquin earned her esthetician license some 15 years ago.
Over the years Paquin, a Litchfield resident who is also a talented makeup artist, said she’s been able to help countless clients with skin ailments similar to her daughter’s.
“I found myself mixing up a cream for her,” Paquin said. That client came back a short time later and wanted to purchase a jar of Paquin’s custom cream after her rash had diminished.
Using all-natural, plant-based ingredients like lavender, calendula and Bulgarian Rose oil, the products are aimed at addressing a variety of skin issues, such as allergies, eczema and rosacea.
The name “Anika” comes from an African term meaning “sweetness of face.”
“There’s a lot of research involved in the process so I’m not making products out of my kitchen anymore,” Paquin said with a laugh.
Hudson resident Linda Jacques said the products have helped her address the problem of hyper-pigmentation.
Hollis resident Jennifer Wolf said she’s a fan of the company’s lip color. “I always keep it with me,” she said.
Boston resident Gale Cogan said she met Paquin about a decade ago, and she credits the Pure Essentials products as helping her “look much younger than someone in my 80s.”
