Police search for assailants in double stabbing in Belmont

February 24. 2014 6:45AM

BELMONT - Two people were stabbed in an early morning attack at a residence on Daniel Webster Highway.

One of the injured, who police said was stabbed in the neck, throat and upper torso, was seriously hurt and taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for treatment. A second victim suffered stab wounds to the waist area and was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital, according to a news release.

A woman, who witnessed the attack, was cut in the hand.

Police were called at 1:04 a.m. to Apartment 1 at 252 Daniel Webster Highway for the reported stabbings. Police Chief Mark Lewandowski told Channel 9 that one man was coming out of a common bathroom when he was attacked.

The second individual stopped by for a visit and was stabbed, a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the chief said.

Investigators are searching for two men in connection with the stabbing, which police said was not random, so there is no assumed safety concern for the public.

Immediately on arrival, police secured the scene and searched the area, but did not find the two assailants.

However, a motor vehicle stopped on Daniel Webster Highway was impounded for investigatory purposes.  The driver and passenger were questioned and later released.

Assisting Belmont police in the investigation are New Hampshire State Police, and officers from Laconia, Gilford, Tilton and Northfield police departments.

Anyone with information about the stabbings is urged to call Detective Raechel Moulton or Sgt. Adam C. Hawkins at 267-9350.
