Blasting for Spaulding Turnpike work to continue in Newington

NEWINGTON — Blasting work associated with the Spaulding Turnpike widening project is scheduled to resume this week.

Blasting in the median area will take place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and traffic on both sides of the highway will be impacted during the periodic blasts, according to the state Department of Transportation.

State Police will use rolling roadblocks to keep traffic away from the work zones during the blasts.

State DOT said motorists should expect delays and some backups during the week.

The work is part of a 2.8 mile widening project on a section of the turnpike between Newington and Dover beginning at Exit 1 and proceeding past Exit 5 northbound.

Work is expected to continue through July 2016.
