Windham-Pelham skates to big win over Goffstown Sunday

SALEM — The Windham-Pelham boys’ hockey team converted two miscues into goals to beat Goffstown 2-1 Sunday night at the ICEnter.

Jack Crowley scored the game-winner as the Wolfpack vaulted over Goffstown and into a tie for fourth place in the Division II standings with Spaulding of Rochester at 13-4. The Grizzlies fell to sixth at 10-4.

“This one hurts a bit,” said Goffstown coach Paul Roy. “That was a big game for playoff seeding and we came out on the short end.”

It was an evenly played game until A.J. Potvin put Goffstown on the board at the 6:31 mark of the second period.

But two minutes later, a defensive turnover by the Grizzlies allowed Josh Monahan to skate in alone on goalie Ben Genest. Monahan’s shot beat Genest high to the glove side and the game was tied at 1-1.

Then with 8:53 remaining in the third period, Genest made several saves at close range but let a rebound escape into the slot. Crowley blasted home a shot and Windham-Pelham had its 2-1 lead.

Even with a man advantage with 4:23 to go, Goffstown could not generate any scoring chances and the Wolfpack hung on for the win.
