Seacoast churches offer program introducing Episcopal faith
February 26. 2014 4:35PM
Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampton and its sister congregation, Christ Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, will be offering a new series of faith-based courses starting Ash Wednesday, March 5.
The six session series, titled Via Media, will be offered Wednesday evenings at 6 at Trinity Church’s 200 High St. location in Hampton.
It will be offered noon on Sundays beginning March 9 at Christ Church’s 1035 Lafayette Road location in Portsmouth.
Sessions in each location begin with an informal soup and bread meal (or, on Ash Wednesday, the Ash Wednesday liturgy), followed by a video presentation and discussion.
The program is designed to introduce people who are interested in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition to the unique aspects of Anglican Christianity that make it the “middle way” between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. “Via Media” is Latin for “middle way.”
The program encourages people to bring their ideas and questions, and provides informational resources to help participants understand some of the foundational principles not only of the Christian faith as it is understood in the Episcopal Church, but Christian faith in general.
Using a combination of learning styles, participants encounter the basic principles of Christianity through the Anglican approach of Scripture, Tradition and Reason.
