Candia police probe second Chester Turnpike burglary

CANDIA — Candia police are investigating the second burglary in three months on Chester Turnpike.

Police Chief Michael McGillen said the most recent burglary occurred Thursday.

“The homeowners left the house around 11:30 (a.m.) and returned shortly after 2 that afternoon to find their side door had been forced open,” he said. “There were a number of valuables taken, and this is similar to a number of crimes that we have seen in Manchester and some other nearby communities. The items they’re taking produce quick money. It’s an easy turnaround for them.”

McGillen said he helped scour the neighborhood for several hours, knocking on doors and seeking additional information.

Although the investigation has produced no significant leads, McGillen said one resident noticed a suspicious red Dodge pickup truck that may have been driven by a female in the neighborhood the previous day. He said it’s unknown if the truck or driver is associated with the crime.

“Right now, we’re just encouraging everybody to be aware of any unusual activity or vehicles in their neighborhood and to immediately report anything that’s out of the ordinary,” said McGillen.

Recently, Candia Police received a break in a case they had been investigating since November, which involved six guns stolen during a residential burglary on the same road.

According to the chief, 31-year-old Joshua Fields, of Epping, was arrested in Maine while trying to sell one of the stolen firearms at the Kittery Trading Post. The investigation also led to the arrests of Laurie Fields, 32, of New Boston; Ashley Anzalone, 26, of Manchester; Scott Plante, 28, of Raymond; and Cody Plante, 21, of Raymond.

All five have been indicted in Maine and are scheduled to be indicted locally this month, said McGillen.

In addition to the recent burglaries on Chester Turnpike, McGillen said a number of mailboxes were vandalized Thursday night. He said he doesn’t believe the crimes are connected.

Those with information about any of the recent crimes are encouraged to contact Candia police at 483-2318.
