CONCORD -- Governor Maggie Hassan Friday announced that State Treasurer Catherine A. Provencher has stepped down to accept the position of Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs and Treasurer for the University System of New Hampshire.
Provencher has been the State Treasurer since Jan. 3, 2007.
Following Provencher’s decision, Governor Hassan released the following statement:
“During her tenure as treasurer, Catherine Provencher has helped New Hampshire weather some of the most difficult economic challenges that our state has faced in generations while maintaining our focus on fiscal responsibility and long-term financial health. Her steady leadership and deep financial knowledge have been invaluable, allowing New Hampshire to be as well positioned as any state to lead the nation in fiscally responsible economic growth.
“While it is difficult to see her depart, I know that she will be a tremendous asset to the University System and will help guide the system toward an even stronger future. I wish Catherine the very best, and I will consult with legislative leaders and work quickly with the Executive Council to appoint a highly qualified individual to serve until a new treasurer is elected.”
Provencher’s new position was approved by the Executive Committee of the USNH Board of Trustees at the Board’s Executive Committee meeting Thursday night.
She will continue to serve as treasurer until March 28.
